3. Daniel Ricciardo from Formula One to NASCAR

Speaking of Formula One drivers heading across the ocean to NASCAR, how about having a winner in the premier open-wheel world championship make the move?

Red Bull F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has spoken frequently about how he would like to race in NASCAR, a series he followed as a youngster. He was a fan of the late Dale Earnhardt, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. invited Ricciardo to pilot one of JR Motorsports’ Xfinity Series cars last year. That would be his best shot at a crossover, as NASCAR’s Red Bull Racing Team was disbanded in 2011.

Like Grosjean, Ricciardo could find a spot at a NASCAR road course race during Formula One’s summer break. There could also be a window for him to get his feet wet in stock car racing early in the calendar, before F1 kicks off in March. However, throwing oneself at of the most difficult tracks in the sport (Daytona) may not be the best approach.

Still Ricciardo brings Formula One star power, and an obvious passion for stock car racing. At the end of the day it would be to mutual benefit to see Ricciardo run in NASCAR, even if it’s just once.
