Every Sprint Cup track has its own history, often made of spectacular races that have stuck in the fans’ minds. Every week Checkered Countdown helps you remember them, with the five best finishes at each venue on the schedule.
After Denny Hamlin’s first ever road course win at Watkins Glen the drivers and teams will move to the totally different short track of Bristol for 500 crazy laps on Saturday night. This track was opened in 1960 and has throughout the years become one of the most famous tracks on the calendar for its rough racing and peculiar atmosphere generated by the more than 150,000 fans that can sit inside the “last great colosseum”.
The track has undergone a slight reconfiguration in the last week that should enable the drivers of make full use of the lower groove, something that we have not seen for quite a few years now. This will create totally new circumstances for the drivers to cope with and hopefully some great Bristol-style racing.
