NASCAR: Winners And Losers From Bristol
By Cole Mentzel
Winner: Fast Starts
There may have only been 48 laps run before the rain interrupted the action on Saturday night, but the opening laps of the race were exciting, to say the least.
Chase Elliott qualified sixth for the event, but he didn’t stay there very long. Once the green flag dropped, Elliott shot to second place in a matter of a couple of laps, passing Matt Kenseth, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin.
After a few more laps had been run, he made his move on the leader and pole winner–Carl Edwards–and took the lead for the next 14 laps.
He would eventually be passed by Kyle Busch before the end of the night but opened up strong the next day.
After falling out of the top-10, Elliott made his way back to the front, but took damage during the wreck on Lap 372 and never recovered, finishing 15th.
Next weekend, Elliott will head back to a familiar track in Michigan. During the June race at the track, Elliott was able to get out front for 35 laps before finishing in second–the best finish of his Cup Series career.
