Winner: Chip Ganassi Racing

It’s been a long drought for Chip Ganassi Racing. Prior to Sunday’s race, their last Cup Series win was in 2013, when Jamie McMurray won at Talladega late in the season.

Kyle Larson entered full-time racing for the team in 2014 and got better as time moved along. It was obvious that he had made a big jump in his career this season after he began to lead more laps and earn finishes in the top-3 at places like Martinsville and Dover.

But after Sunday, none of those close calls mattered as Larson had finally come through to finish the job.

He got out front earlier in the race but left his mark late. After losing a pit road battle to Chase Elliott, it looked like Larson was going to have to settle for another second-place finish, but he used a late caution to his advantage and accelerated past Elliott on the restart to complete a day he will never forget.

Larson’s win was a major breakthrough in his career. After two winless seasons in the Cup Series and many late-race issues, he earned a huge win for CGR and a milestone win for his career.
