NASCAR: Winners And Losers From New Hampshire
By Cole Mentzel
Winner: The Late-Race Battle Between Kenseth and Truex
As I mentioned earlier, Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex Jr. owned most of the day at New Hampshire. Truex led a race-high 141 laps and Kenseth took over after him for 105 more.
Those two drivers were joined by Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards in the top-10 as the Toyota cars took up four of the top six spots in the race. Kenseth went on to finish second after losing a late restart to Harvick and Truex finished seventh, but it was their late-race battle that turned out to be a lot of fun to watch.
After Kenseth had taken over the lead for his portion of the race, the next few restarts ended up being between him and Truex. We would often see Kenseth speed out ahead of the pack before Truex would catch up and then we would see about 10-15 laps of the No. 78 constantly making runs at the No. 20.
With the way Loudon works, to make a pass, drivers usually go to the inside. Many times, Truex was able to get to the inside of Kenseth, and when he wasn’t there, he was following closely behind.
Though we didn’t see the two drivers on the final restart of the race, the two provided some thrilling entertainment for about the last 100 laps of the race.
