Winner: Overcoming Sickness

Alex Bowman has been thrust into the spotlight of the Cup Series this season as a result of Dale Earnhardt Jr. missing the rest of the year–and he’s done a pretty good job.

His finishes don’t exactly tell the entire story, as he’s had fast cars and good races that have been derailed because of accidents or problems. With just one top-10 in five races, he entered the weekend with another great starting spot (5th).

After a hard-fought race, which saw him stay near the top-10 for the majority of the day, Bowman  earned a seventh-place finish–the best of his Cup Series career.

After the race was over, it was revealed that he had been sick throughout the afternoon, as he had been battling a stomach bug.

It’s one thing to go out and race at speeds near 200 MPH. It’s another thing to do it while battling a sickness. Props to Alex Bowman for an awesome day on the track.
