NASCAR: Winners And Losers From Kansas

Loser: Trying To “Lay Up”
Earlier in the week, Brad Keselowski made some interesting comments about Kansas. After five drivers had gotten into trouble at Charlotte, there was a huge gap between the eighth place and seventh place drivers.
Keselowski mentioned that a lot of drivers would “just go and lay up” during the race in an attempt to avoid trouble and keep from falling below the cut line.
While his plan seemed like a good one and while it worked for some drivers, it didn’t work for himself. On Lap 189, Keselowski came out of Turn 4 and slid up in front of Denny Hamlin. However, the No. 2 car got loose and Hamlin had nowhere to go, which led to a bump and a wild ride for Keselowki as he went through the grass and lost pieces of his car.
He ended up finishing the day 38th and now sits seven points below the cut line. Luckily for him, Talladega is one of his best tracks, as he’s earned four wins there. He’ll need a big performance next weekend if he plans on moving on.
