Five Must-See Winter Racing Events
By Alex Herbst
Monster Energy Supercross
Listed in our five racing series you should be watching, Monster Energy Supercross has taken off under AMA sanctioning and is now the top two-wheeled motorsport action in America. Racing in baseball and football stadiums around the United States and Canada, Supercross provides a cost-effective, action-packed form of racing that kicks off in winter, and continues into the spring.
Racing on man-made dirt, gravel, and sand surfaces in large stadiums, the fans are right on top of the action as the top moto riders take on all the bumps and hills. In 2016, Ryan Dungey capped off the season with his second consecutive championship in the 450cc class, and his third overall. Meanwhile, Cooper Webb and Malcolm Stewart took the 250cc West and East classes respectively, and both are expected to compete at the top level of Supercross in the coming year.
2017 will bring some changes for the series, as they will move from lapped races to timed ones, in line with most major motocross events around the United States and Europe. The change will provide more consistency with their sister series AMA Motocross, and with MXGP, the global motocross series. However, fans can still expect high-flying wheel-to-wheel action at a stadium near you starting in January.
Be sure to tune in for the full season of Monster Energy Supercross, starting in January 2017 on FS1 and FS2.
