On Wednesday NASCAR driver Carl Edwards called it a career when he announced that he would not be racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in 2017

News of Edwards’ departure broke on Tuesday but at the time there were not many details about why it was happening. On Tuesday Bob Pockrass of ESPN.com was reporting that Edwards was retiring while Fox Sports was reporting that he was stepping away from the sport for at least the 2017 season.

Heading into the press conference on Tuesday fans were certain that Edwards wasn’t going to be running in 2017 and it seemed certain that Daniel Suarez was going to be the replacement in the No. 19 machine. Coming out of the press conference on Wednesday there is now a lot more clarity on the situation. While Carl Nation might not be happy, they now at least know the answers to many of the questions that they had.
