David Ragan, 2013 Aaron’s 499

David Ragan’s career has been disappointing, to say the least. The son of former racer Ken Ragan, David was supposed to be the next big thing for Roush Fenway Racing. He spent 5 years driving the #6 Ford for Jack Roush, but he only notched 1 win and 10 top 5’s during that time. After 2011, Ragan was released from his ride and moved to the struggling Front Row Motorsports, where he had little success until 2013.

The 2013 Aaron’s 499 was a brutal race. After several major crashes, only 20 cars were still on the lead lap at the end of the race. When the green flag dropped with 2 laps to go, Ragan sat in 10th place, ahead of teammate David Gilliland. However, as the leaders fought to take control of the race, Ragan and Gilliland sliced and diced their way through the pack. Heading into the final corner, Ragan crossed over Carl Edwards to take a lead he would not relinquish, giving Front Row Motorsports its first ever victory.
