NASCAR: The Top-Five Clash At Daytona Finishes
2006 Budweiser Shootout
Denny Hamlin can thank this race for making his first major impression on NASCAR fans. The 2006 Bud Shootout is one that can never be forgotten because of the man who reached Victory Lane in a fantastic run to the finish. 2006 was the first season that NASCAR featured the Chevrolet Impala and the Ford Fusion. It was also the final full season to feature the non-COT, Gen 4, or whatever you want to call it body style.
The race itself, as always, was a fantastic race with a myriad of lead changes (16). Once again, a late race yellow flag bunched the field back together for a sprint to the finish, this time a Green-White-Checkered finish, the first of its kind in the Shootout.
On the final restart Tony Stewart pushed the back bumper of Hamlin’s No. 11 Fedex Chevrolet without remorse and into the race lead. Hamlin would lead the field back to the checkered flag and forever cement his name as a household name with NASCAR fans and forecast his all-star career.
