No. 10: Indianapolis, 2014

The polesitter of the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Sebastian Saavedra, stalled on the standing start of the race. A bunch of cars drove past him, some of which taking evasive action so they did not hit him.

While much of the field missed him, two drivers were not as fortunate. First, Carlos Munoz clipped Saavedra’s stationary car with the right side of his car. Then, Mikhail Aleshin slammed into the back of Saavedra’s car.

Debris was spewed all across the track from this accident, and the cars of Saavedra, Munoz, and Aleshin were completely demolished. None of the drivers involved in the accident were seriously injured.

No. 9: Indianapolis, 2015

Josef Newgarden was going about his own business practicing for the 2015 Indianapolis 500 when he got loose at the exit of turn one of the track.

He spun out just over 180 degrees before hitting the barrier. Because of how far he had spun, the front of his car hit the barrier first before the entire left side did as well.

This lifted the rear of Newgarden’s car on top of the barrier before flipping his car over onto its roll bar. The car then skidded across the track on its roll bar before Newgarden got out.

This wreck was one of many that took place in practice for the 2015 Indy 500. Newgarden was okay afterwards.
