No. 8 – Richard Petty Motorsports

Team Value: $48 million / 2016 Team Revenue: $43 million

Richard Petty Motorsports is the first surprise that appears on this list.

RPM has struggled mightily in recent years. In 2016 RPM was a two-car operation that dropped down to a one-car team this season. Brian Scott retiring from NASCAR allowed for the team to drop the No. 44 machine. The No. 44 machine was the No. 9 machine in 2015 and in seasons prior. RPM had trouble keeping a driver in their second car before finally dropping down to only running the No. 43 machine.

For a team that is now down to one car and has not performed well in recent seasons, it’s surprising to see them ahead of a team like Furniture Row racing on this list. It’s also disappointing to know that RPM is worth this much money and that they bring in this much money but are not able to get the results of a Furniture Row.

Hopefully Aric Almirola and his team can find more success in 2017 than they did in 2016.
