No. 5 – Roush Fenway Racing

Team Value: $150 million / 2016 Team Revenue: $102 million

Roush Fenway Racing is the second surprise on this list. In 2017 RFR is a two-car team after the departure of Greg Biffle following the 2016 season.

While Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Trevor Bayne are young and capable, neither has really been able to light the world on fire during their time with RFR. Unless one of them has a breakout season in 2017, I would venture to say that they will see their numbers decline come this time next season. I am not sure if Team Penske will be able to catch them come 2018, but I do think that the distance will shrink between the two and RFR will fall further behind the teams that are ahead of them.

The goal for Stenhouse and Bayne in 2017 is surely to win races. However getting them both into the playoffs this season (even without wins) would be a success for the team.
