NASCAR: Five Lessons Learned From The Auto Club 400 at Fontana
Don’t Worry About Joe Gibbs Racing…Yet
What’s happened to Joe Gibbs Racing this season?
Last year they looked like an unstoppable force. It seemed like in almost every race they were either winning it or coming close to.
In reality they aren’t that much further off from where they were this time last year. Yes, Denny Hamlin did win the 2016 Daytona 500, but that race can be all about luck.
If you take Daytona out of the picture, the next race JGR won in 2016 was at Martinsville.
Now NASCAR is headed back to there for the 2017 season next Sunday and Kyle Busch will be trying to win once again.
JGR has also run well so far this season, despite not winning a race yet. Kyle Busch almost won Phoenix, a late race caution changed that, and last Sunday both Busch and Denny Hamlin were running up in the front during the end of the race.
Martin Truex Jr., who drivers for JGR partner Furniture Row Racing, was fast last weekend and has a race win this season.
It might seem like JGR is struggling after being so good last year, but realistically this team still has time before fans should be sounding the alarm.
It’s tough to say they don’t have the same speed as last season when they’ve been competitive in every race so far. Maybe they just need a little bit of luck, or maybe it’s just a matter of time, but Joe Gibbs Racing will end up in Victory Lane soon and will be just as competitive as they were last season.
