Honorable Mention

  • Previous Week: N/A
  • Auto Club Results: AJ Allmendinger (17th) and Chris Buescher (25th)

AJ Allmendinger led JTG Daugherty this week with his best finish of the season since finishing 3rd in the Daytona 500. While Allmendinger bounced back a bit, Buescher remained consistent with a 25th-place finish. Since finishing 35th in the Daytona 500 Buescher has four consecutive finishes between 23rd and 27th.

After finishing 3rd in Daytona, may fans thought this might be the start of the turnaround for Allmendinger after a disappointing 2016 season. While the 3rd-place finish was nice, following it up with three finishes outside of the top-20 wasn’t all that great.

Conversely, Buescher is looking to maintain the success that he found in 2016 when he won a race and made the playoffs. Through five races this season Buescher has an average starting position of 28.6 and an average finishing position of 26.8. In those five starts Buescher has only finished on the lead lap once.

Next weekend both drivers will have their eye on finishing inside of the top-20 and building on their Auto Club runs.
