NASCAR: Five Predictions for the GEICO 500 at Talladega
Clint Bowyer Wins at Talladega
Clint Bowyer moved to Stewart-Haas Racing this season and took over the 14 ride for the retired Tony Stewart and has been running well this season despite not winning a race yet.
Not only has he qualified well over the last four races, starting in the top 10 for all of them, his worst finish was 15th, which was last week at Richmond.
What’s important to remember about Bowyer is that this is a brand new team for him. The 14 crew might be used to working with each other when they had Tony Stewart as their driver, but now not only do they have to get used to Clint Bowyer, he has to get used to them as well.
It can take a new team and driver several races to finally start seeing results, but Bowyer and the 14 team have been running well since the start of the season. Their worst finish was 32nd at Daytona, but that was because of issues they ran into during the race.
Bowyer has come close to winning this season and now he’s headed to a track where he’s won before. Bowyer has an average finish of 14.68 at Talladega, which is impressive considering how anything can happen at this type of track.
Will Clint Bowyer have the speed needed to get out in front at Talladega this Sunday though? He did manage to lead the first practice run on Friday with a top lap speed of 196.439 miles per hour. Bowyer will be trying to capitalize on that speed for qualifying this Saturday and at the GEICO 500 on Sunday.
Bowyer has come close to winning this season as he and the 14 team get used to working with each other, but on Sunday there will be no more coming close for Bowyer because he’s going to win his first race of 2017 at Talladega Superspeedway.
