In the month of May, the biggest month of the IndyCar calendar due to the Indy 500, a number of drivers have lots more to gain and lots more to lose than others.

It’s the biggest month of the IndyCar season. May is finally upon us, and the action begins this Saturday, May 13th with the Grand Prix of Indianapolis around the 13-turn, 2.44-mile natural terrain road course inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.

However, everyone knows that this event is nowhere close to being main event of the month of May. Both from an iconic and historical standpoint as well as a championship points implication standpoint, the Indianapolis 500 is the crown jewel of IndyCar, and it’s now just over two weeks away.

Not only is it the greatest race in the world, but it is also the heaviest race in terms of its influence on the championship standings. Regular race points are doubled for all drivers, and there are hefty amounts of points to be earned by drivers in qualifying for the race as well.

As we approach Memorial Day Sunday and the 101st running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, certain drivers have lots more to gain than others, while certain drivers have lots more to lose than others. Let’s have a look at a few notable drivers that fit in one category or the other.
