It was Kyle Busch celebrating in victory lane on Friday night in the Camping World Truck Series at Kansas, but he was not the dominant driver of the race.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returned from a six-week spring break to race under the lights in the nation’s heartland. The Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway had everything a race fan could look for, including a heartbreaking end for one driver, leading to a victory by Cup driver Kyle Busch.

Ben Rhodes was the dominant truck on the night at Kansas, with by far the strongest truck in the field. He would fight throughout the night with the Kyle Busch Motorsports trucks driven by Busch and Christopher Bell, swapping the lead with them frequently. Following a spate of cautions that slowed the opening stage of the race, Rhodes looked poised to conquer the field and erase the bad memories of his last lap crash last year at the track.

However, heartbreak would strike in the closing laps for the #27 Toyota, as the engine let go on the race leader. This allowed Kyle Busch to easily cruise to victory at Kansas, his 47th career Truck Series win. Johnny Sauter for GMS Racing came home second, with John Hunter Nemechek in third.

Unlike last year, Ben Rhodes can hold his head up high leaving Kansas after fighting so strongly against Busch. Even the normally self-focused Rowdy subdued his victory celebrations, understanding the position that Rhodes was in, just missing out on his first career NASCAR win.
