NASCAR: Five Predictions for the Go Bowling 400 at Kansas
Joe Gibbs Racing Fails to Win Another Race
We are now 10 races into the 2017 season and Joe Gibbs Racing hasn’t won a race yet. It was a much different story last year for this organization as Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards had locked themselves into the Chase by this point of the season.
This year, though, we’ve seen Kyle Busch clearly emerge as the best JGR driver. Denny Hamlin is close behind, but Daniel Suarez is a rookie with a lot to learn and Matt Kenseth might be past his prime racing in NASCAR’s highest level, as he has yet to do anything nearly as impressive as his teammates this season.
Busch has come close to winning several races this season, but late-race cautions and mistakes caused by himself or his team have taken him out of contention. He was also out-raced by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. last week, leaving the driver of the 18 car still searching for a win.
Competition has clearly improved this season in NASCAR and while every manufacturer has at least one race win this season, Toyota and JGR seem to be falling behind the rest.
JGR’s luck won’t change on Saturday night as they get ready to try to win the Go Bowling 400. Both Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch have only won once at this track, and even though they will start this race from the top 10, they’ll have to push through mostly Ford cars to make it to the front. With the way Ford has been running, that is something that won’t happen.
Matt Kenseth and Daniel Suarez will be starting the race from 14th and 15th place, respectively, and have an even smaller chance of making it to the front than their teammates do.
Joe Gibbs Racing hasn’t been able to win a race this season, and until Toyota can start to catch up to Chevrolet and Ford as a manufacturer, their winless streak will continue.
