The 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season is in its sixth race with the Indianapolis 500. Who looks solid early on after the fourth practice session?

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’s Jay Howard topped the fourth practice session for the Indianapolis 500 with a top lap speed of 226.744 miles per hour (39.692 seconds) around the 4-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana.

With the top speed of the month thus far, Howard became the second Honda driver to top the speed chart in a practice session for the race. Honda drivers made up the top 4 spots on the speed chart in this session.

The fastest Chevrolet driver in the practice session was Josef Newgarden, who finished 5th fastest on the speed chart. However, Newgarden also wrecked during the practice session.

Buddy Lazier, who had not yet practiced for the race, finished 33rd fastest in the session.

Here is the full finishing order of the fourth practice session. See lap speeds and times and other technical information about today’s practice session here.
