The 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season is in its sixth race with the Indianapolis 500. Here are the qualification results for the race.
For the third time in his career and second time in three years, Scott Dixon will start on the pole for the Indianapolis 500. Two-time polesitter Ed Carpenter and defending race winner Alexander Rossi will join him on row 1.
Dixon posted a 4-lap average speed of 232.164 miles per hour (average of 38.766 seconds per lap) to claim the top spot on the starting grid for the race. The speed is the top pole speed since the late Scott Brayton’s 233.718 miles per hour average in 1996.
The pole for Dixon was also just Honda’s fourth since the second race of the Houston doubleheader in 2014.
Carpenter was the highest qualifying Chevrolet driver and one of only three Chevrolet drivers who qualified in the top 17. All three of those drivers made it into the fast 9.
Here are full qualification results from Sunday’s Indy 500 qualification session. The top 9 were locked into the top 9 from yesterday’s speeds, so despite some drivers outside of the top 9 being faster than some inside the top 9, the drivers that locked into the top 9 yesterday will start farther up front.
