Kasey Kahne

Silliest Scenario

It would be crazy if Kasey Kahne maintained his ride in the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet beyond the conclusion of the 2017 season. He currently sits in 22nd place in the championship standings, which would be his lowest finish since the 2005 season if it holds, despite the fact that he had the best two-race start to a season of his career this season. He is also losing GreatClips and Farmer’s Insurance as his sponsors after this season.

Less Silly Scenario

It wouldn’t be the craziest scenario, but it would be rather crazy to see Kasey Kahne walk away from NASCAR after the 2017 season. While he is currently having his worst season since 2005, he has still had speed. As mentioned above, he did have the best two-race start to a season of his career this season, as he averaged a finish of 5.5 at Daytona and Atlanta. However, in the 17 races since then, he has been unable to capitalize on that speed and has finished higher than 12th place just once.

Least Silly Scenario

The least crazy and most likely scenario for Kasey Kahne in the 2018 season is that he ends up driving the #10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford currently driven by Danica Patrick. Patrick has never finished in the top 5 in 173 career Cup races, so she will likely be gone from the team after this season. A move to another top-tier organization could help rejuvenate Kahne’s declining career. After all, when he first came to the top-tier Hendrick Motorsports organization in his ninth season in 2012, he had his best career season by far, finishing in 4th place in the standings.
