CHARLIE KIMBALL. #5. Charlie Kimball has had a disastrous 2017 season. But that does not change the fact that he has been improving over the years despite not having won a race since the 2013 season. He still has speed at certain venues, but not others. As far as Chip Ganassi Racing, his current team, goes, there are better options to fill his seat in the #83 car. But he does have the sponsorship money for a full-time ride due to the fact that he is diabetic, and that’s not a knock on him in any way, shape or form. Like him or not, it’s amazing what he has done with his life and it will be fun to watch him try to rebound from his down season.. Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. Honda

#7. Spencer Pigot has driven the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet for two seasons now on only the road and street courses, and he has had some success. While he has had his inconsistency and has not shown much speed in his two oval races at the Indianapolis 500, he has never really had the chance to shine on an oval track, as neither of his two Indianapolis 500 races have been with Ed Carpenter Racing. He has proven that he is a capable candidate of being a full-time driver, and this seat will likely be open with the uncertainty surrounding the future of Mikhail Aleshin, the current driver of this car..
