Honorable Mentions

HM. [Last Race: Honorable Mention (-1)] — Jimmie Johnson has not finished higher than 10th place in any of the past nine races, and he is the only driver in the top 19 in the championship standings that can say that. While he may lose this spot as an honorable mention in these rankings if he doesn’t heat up in the near future, he maintains it in for now since he is 2nd among all drivers in victories so far this season with three, and he does know when to win when it counts, as evidenced by the fact that he is a seven-time champion.. No. 48. Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet. JIMMIE JOHNSON

No. 21. Wood Brothers Racing, Ford. RYAN BLANEY. HM. [Last Race: Not Ranked (+2)] — Ryan Blaney put together a solid 8th place effort at Watkins Glen for his best career finish on a road course. He is already locked into this season’s playoffs thanks to his first career Cup Series victory at Pocono earlier this season, and he has done a great job from a points perspective as well, as he currently sits in 12th place ahead of a number of drivers driving for top-tier organizations. The future looks bright for Blaney, even as early as this year’s playoffs.
