NASCAR: Top Five Teams Who Should Join the Truck Series

Once a massive NASCAR empire, Roush Fenway Racing has been pared back slowly but surely since its peak in the mid-2000s. A former Goliath of an organization with five Cup Series cars, three to five Xfinity teams, and three Camping World Truck Series pickups, the team is now only a fraction of the size. With just one Xfinity ride and two Cup cars, RFR has not been able to hold together the funding necessary to be a powerhouse team.

Many point to the limitations imposed by series officials to cut Roush from five to four Cup cars as the beginning of the team’s demise. However, that does not explain the sudden collapse of their Trucks and Xfinity operations. This could probably be more closely associated with the recession in the late 2000s into the early 2010s. Now, perhaps it is time to build out again at RFR?
At one point, Roush Fenway Racing had the largest driver development program in NASCAR. Today, they don’t even have the largest one among the Ford-powered teams. That title has been taken by Team Penske, thanks in part to a partnership with Brad Keselowski Racing. Now might be the time for RFR to take the fight directly to them, creating a Truck Series team for up-and-comers like Ty Majeski or Dalton Sargeant.
