Reason #2 – The Cup Series Playoffs lose their luster when the NFL starts

No doubt, NASCAR takes the back seat to the National Football League in September when the football season kicks off. It creates a decision that has to be made by the fans having to choose which sport they’re going to have on their television on Sunday.

The best example being the September New Hampshire race. Fans in the New England area on Sunday have to choose between watching Tom Brady throw Rob Gronkowski touchdown passes, or watching fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. under-perform.

Surely, the fanbases are different. However, NASCAR has to compete with the NFL each Sunday from September to November. This is right in the heart of the playoffs for NASCAR and without a doubt hurts the television ratings and could also negatively impact the attendance figures as well. Moving the races to Saturday would allow NASCAR the ability to compete with college football, which would potentially be a better matchup for the Cup Series.
