Reason #4 – It opens up major TV networks on Friday and Saturday

Above all, the amount of competition on Sunday for NASCAR could be the reason why some races were on FOX Sports 1 rather than FOX. If races were on Saturday, FOX and other major networks could be more open to sign a contract with NASCAR considering the competition with the NFL would no longer be a factor.

For example, fans aren’t able to afford the bigger cable packages. These higher packages include FOX Sports 1 or the NBC Sports Network. This means those fans aren’t watching on Sunday and are becoming less involved with the sport. These fans are making the choice to spend less money and not buy the bigger TV package and watch football or baseball instead of NASCAR.

Not to mention the Cup Series moving to Saturday would open up Friday for the Xfinity Series and gain more viewers for them. The avid NASCAR fan will watch no matter what. However, it is the casual fan who the sport needs to try to reel back in. Very rarely will a sporting event happening on a Friday outweigh an Xfinity Series race, especially in the fall months.
