Calvin Fish

If you’ve tuned in to a sports car racing telecast in the last decade, you’ve probably seen or heard the guy we’re talking about. From IMSA to Pirelli World Challenge to the World Endurance Championship, Calvin Fish has covered it all. He’s served as host, play-by-play, color commentator, and pit reporter over the years, making him sports car racing’s ultimate utility man.

The key element that sets Calvin Fish apart from his peers is the experience with confidence that he speaks from. A man who grew up racing the late Ayrton Senna in Formula 3000 and other junior divisions, Fish has won both the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona. He is also a former Formula Atlantic champion. He has seen sports car racing divide after the IMSA GT days, and come back together with the merger of Grand-Am and the American Le Mans Series. And that lifetime of experience in racing translates well in such a complicated motorsports landscape.

Despite the competing classes that create action bouncing from one section of track to another, Fish has been able to provide context nearly at all times for the viewers. He is the mainstay now of the Fox Sports crew, having worked with Leigh Diffey, Bob Varsha, Brian Till, and Greg Creamer in recent years as the lead announcer. Here’s hoping that Fish is here to stay for many years to come of sports car racing.
