4. Kevin Harvick

Why: There is a such thing as “all git-out”

Happy Harvick would be happier ’n all git-out if he won at Texas. Kevin Harvick was victorious with five NASCAR Xfinity Series races and one sole Camping World race way back in 2011, but he has never won a Cup race at Texas. He is currently ranked fourth in points among playoff drivers.

However, there is no guarantee he will move on to race for the championship without a win. Harvick secured a spot in the playoffs with a win earlier this year at Sonoma. With only two races left in the Round of 8, Texas seems like the perfect situation for him to go ahead and secure his fate. And besides, Texas Motor Speedway is giving away Kevin Harvick bobbleheads to the first 30,000 fans who show up.

5. Chase Elliott

Why: Because you “don’t mess with Texas”

The good folks at Texas Motor Speedway showed their appreciation for the “new Dale Jr.” by crowning him “The People’s Champion.” Chase has yet to win a Cup race and he is starting in 34th at Texas, but after last week’s confrontation with Denny Hamlin, we have learned not to mess with Chase.

Chase took the Jimmie Johnson route and simply had a “talk” with Hamlin. He didn’t throw punches, but he put NASCAR on notice by simply letting everyone know not to mess with him. He will get in your face. The odds are stacked against him to win at Texas, but he seems fired up. When someone is mad and a chance to advance to the next round of the playoffs is on the line, anything is possible.

Bonus picks: Martin Truex Jr. is hot! Sure ’nuff.

Bonus bonus picks: Joey Logano could pull off a win just because he seems to always be in the mix–whether it is blocking for teammate Brad Keselowski, or simply because he “might could.”
