MLB: San Francisco Giants – Bruce Bochy

Baseball is a game of inches where a game can be determined by inches. The difference between a baseball being fair or foul or a pitch being a ball or a strike could decide a game. Sounds a little like NASCAR, doesn’t it? Close finishes and small adjustments determine a trip to Victory Lane.

Bochy managed the Giants to World Series championships in 2010, 2012 and 2014. The championship team in 2010 was known for playing what was called “torture” baseball with their close finishes and small-ball tactics.

Bochy would be a good NASCAR crew chief based on his ability to lead and make the right call in late moments. I’d guess his teams would win races by means of fuel strategy. If not fuel strategy, the wins would come by pit strategy. Bochy’s small-ball mentality would translate into two-tire stops that would eventually pay off in the end for wins.

Therefore, you can picture a late caution at the Daytona 500 with Bochy making the decisions for the team. Of course, by using his “torture” tactics, his team would be celebrating in Victory Lane. It is important to note that it is an even year, so if teams are looking for someone to win in 2018, Bruce Bochy might be the right guy to call.
