Sam Bird won the seventh race of the 2017-2018 Formula E season by taking the checkered flag in front of the rest of the field in the Rome ePrix.
DS Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird took the checkered flag in the 33-lap 2018 CBMM Niobium Rome ePrix in his #2 Spark-Citroen machine at the 21-turn, 2.86-kilometer (1.77-mile) Circuito cittadino dell’EUR in Rome, Italy, which was the seventh of 12 races on the 2017-2018 Formula E season schedule.
Bird held off Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Lucas di Grassi by 0.970 seconds to claim his second victory of the season, as he also won the season opener in Hong Kong back in December.
Championship standings leader Jean-Eric Vergne of Techeetah, who is one of three drivers with multiple wins so far this season, finished the race in 5th place, giving him seven top 5 finishes in seven races so far this season.

The other driver aside of Vergne and Bird who has won two races so far this season is Mahindra Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist. He was forced to retire after just 22 of the race’s 33 laps, giving him an 18th place finish and his second retirement in the last three races. Rounding out the top 5 behind Bird and di Grassi were Andre Lotterer, Daniel Abt and Vergne. A total of 17 of the 20 drivers who entered the race finished it., with 16 doing so on the lead lap.
