Three races featuring three different winners have taken place so far in the 2018 IndyCar season. Where do each of the 20 full-time drivers rank?
Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi dominated the 44th annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on the historic 11-turn, 1.968-mile temporary street circuit on the streets of Long Beach, California in his #27 Honda en route to his first victory of the 2018 IndyCar season.
Following Sebastien Bourdais’ win in the 2018 season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida and Josef Newgarden’s win in the first oval race of the season last Saturday night and Phoenix, Rossi’s win gives IndyCar three different winners from three different teams in the first three races of a season for the second consecutive season.
Last season, Bourdais, who drove and still drives the #18 Honda for Dale Coyne Racing, also won the season opener in St. Petersburg. James Hinchcliffe, who drove and still drives the #5 Honda for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, then went on to win in Long Beach before Newgarden, who drove the #2 Chevrolet for Team Penske and now drives the #1 Chevrolet for Team Penske as the defending IndyCar champion, won in Alabama.
Last season began with seven different winners in the first seven races, which tied an all-time record that was set back in the 2000 season. Is that the direction the 2018 season is headed, or will Bourdais, Newgarden or Rossi be back in victory lane within the next few weeks?
