IndyCar driver Conor Daly is set to make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut driving for Roush Fenway Racing at Road America.

A few months ago, 26-year-old IndyCar driver Conor Daly stated that he would be open to driving in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in one or more road course races if he ended up being unable to land a full-time IndyCar ride for the 2018 season.

Daly was replaced at A.J. Foyt Enterprises by 19-year-old rookie Matheus Leist, and he was unable to secure a ride in the #19 Dale Coyne Racing Honda, leaving him without a full-time IndyCar ride this season. He is, however, set to drive in the Indianapolis 500 for Dale Coyne Racing and Thom Burns Racing in the #17 Honda in two weeks.

Here is what Daly had to say about driving in the Xfinity Series a few months ago when he still wasn’t ruling out IndyCar this year, according to NBC Sports.

"“I’d love to try and do NASCAR stuff. I’ve been trying to talk to Xfinity Series teams about their road course races. I think that would be very entertaining. I think it would be a great idea. I obviously love my IndyCar family, but if there’s no possibilities there and there seems to be some chances to be had in the NASCAR world, then I’m certainly going to take it, because I want to drive anything that I can.”"

More from Xfinity Series

Daly, who has racked up 10 top 10 finishes in 39 career IndyCar starts, including three top five finishes and a career-high second place finish at Belle Isle in the 2016 season, is now set to get a chance in the Xfinity Series.

Daly has signed with Roush Fenway Racing to drive the #6 Ford in the Johnsonville 180 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 25. His car is set to be sponsored by Lilly Diabetes, as Daly races with Type 1 diabetes.

Here is what Daly had to say about getting the opportunity to drive in the Xfinity Series, according to NASCAR.com.

"“I’m very excited for this opportunity to be partnered again with Lilly Diabetes and to be able to drive a Jack Roush Ford. I’ve raced at Road America almost every year since I was 16 and have won there. I have driven almost every form of car, but this will be my first stock car experience. I’ve been an avid follower of NASCAR and have been friends with Ryan [Reed] for a long time and been to many races to support him.”"

Daly is set to join full-time driver Ryan Reed and part-time driver Ty Majeski in the team’s lineup for that race. The cars of Reed and Majeski will also be sponsored by Lilly Diabetes for the race.
