What if non-racing driver athletes were to drive in the Indianapolis 500? Here are the top 10 who should drive in the Indy 500 someday.

No, I am taking a shot at the skill and the talent level that it takes to perform in American motorsport’s most competitive and most challenging open-wheel series and arguably overall series in general perhaps not only in the U.S. but in the world. This article is purely a hypothetical “what-if” article.

In fact, many of the die-hard IndyCar fans out there know for a fact that there are plenty of IndyCar drivers currently driving not only in the Indianapolis 500 but in the series as full-time drivers who have not done much as far as results go to warrant landing full-time rides, yet some of them drive again and again, year after year. So why not give someone else a shot?

Of course, that “someone” is typically — well, always — another professional driver. But in this case, we’re going to think outside the box. Which non-racing driver athletes should compete in, and which would actually have a chance to potentially do well in, the Indy 500?

Here are the top 10 non-racing driver athletes who should compete in the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” one day.

NOTEThe numbers in the gray boxes are the ages of the athletes. Athletes are listed from oldest to youngest.
