NASCAR Truck Series: Driver Power Rankings after the 2018 M and M’s 200
By Mark Kristl
Conclusion
Entering the M&M’s 200, Brett Moffitt already most likely clinched a playoff berth with his Atlanta victory. Yet NASCAR teams rely heavily on sponsors. As stated, Moffitt lost his Truck Series ride last season due to lack of sponsorship. What a year it has been since then. Ultimately, he finished the 2017 NASCAR Truck Series season 31st in the championship standings. He currently sits in third.
However, challenges remain for Hattori Racing Enterprises. At Texas, the #16 Toyota lacked a primary sponsor, and there are a few remaining races for which the team lacks sponsors. NASCAR states a driver is eligible for the playoffs only if they attempt all the races. If Hattori Racing Enterprises do not field a truck for Moffitt in the regular season, there are immediate playoff ramifications.

The two remaining races of this four-race stretch for the NASCAR Truck Series are at Gateway Motorsports Park and Chicagoland Speedway. Defending race winner John Hunter Nemechek is entered at Gateway, but he primarily competes in the Xfinity Series. The #16 Toyota has AISIN Group listed as a sponsor, but the following race is the race for which finances will likely become an issue for the team. Moments after his victory, Moffitt reiterated the fact that he is unsure if the team will race at Chicagoland. Since then, those in the NASCAR community have been supportive of the team’s efforts to compete the full season.
Hopefully Hattori Racing Enterprises land a sponsor for Moffitt. After all, he just won the M&M’s 200. He is locked into the playoffs. He is a contender in every race. For NASCAR, including but not limited to NASCAR executives, personnel and fans, it would be a shame to see Moffitt not competing for a championship this season.
