NASCAR Truck Series: 2018 Overton’s 225 results – Brett Moffitt wins a thriller
By Asher Fair
Brett Moffitt took the lead on the final lap of the Overton’s 225 to earn his third victory of the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series season in thrilling fashion.
Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Brett Moffitt earned his third victory of the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series season in the 11th race of the season, the Overton’s 225. He held off ThorSport Racing’s Ben Rhodes in second place by 5.092 seconds at the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois.
But while Moffitt’s margin of victory in his #16 Toyota was 5.092 seconds over Rhodes, the highest finishing Ford driver, in his #41 Ford, the finish of the race was one of the most exciting finishes of the 2018 season thus far. NEMCO Motorsports’ John Hunter Nemechek took the while flag while leading the race in his #8 Chevrolet, but his engine blew up in turn one.
Moffitt took the lead from Nemechek in turn one and never looked back en route to claiming his third win of the season and his second win in the last three races. Nemechek ended up finishing the race on the lead lap, but he finished all the way down in seventh place.
Here is a video of this exciting yet heartbreaking finish.
GMS Racing’s Johnny Sauter, who finished the race in third place, was the highest finishing Chevrolet driver in his #21 Chevrolet.
Moffitt’s other two victories in the 2018 season so far took place in the second race of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway back in April and in the ninth race of the season at Iowa Speedway two weeks ago.
The Overton’s 225 featured a total 17 lead changes, which is the second highest lead change total of the season so far and the highest lead change total since 21 lead changes took place in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway back in mid-February. The lead changed hands 17 times among six different drivers as Chicagoland Speedway.

Aside of Moffitt, who lead 17 of the race’s 150 laps, five other drivers led at least one lap of the race. Those drivers were Nemechek, race polesitter Noah Gragson, Korbin Forrister, Dalton Sargeant and Jennifer Jo Cobb.
Nemechek, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 64 laps led, won stage one, while Gragson, who led more laps than anybody else in the field except Nemechek with 42 laps led, won stage two.
The race also featured a total of six caution flag periods for 29 laps. Of those six caution flag periods, four took place as a result of on-track incidents and two took place as a result of the endings of stage one and two. Of the 32 drivers who started the race, 24 finished it, and of the 24 drivers who finished it, nine finished it on the lead lap.
