NASCAR Xfinity Series: 2018 Overton’s 300 results – Kyle Larson wins
By Asher Fair
Kyle Larson earned his second victory in his third race of the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season by winning the Overton’s 300 at Chicagoland Speedway.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson had not driven in a NASCAR Xfinity Series race since the third race of the 2018 season, which was held back in March at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. He won that race for his first Xfinity Series victory of the year.
Nearly four months later, Larson, a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver for Chip Ganassi Racing, proved that he has not skipped a beat in NASCAR’s second highest series, as he drove his #42 Chevrolet to victory lane for the second time in three races so far this season. He won the Overton’s 300, which was the 15th race of the 2018 season.
Larson, who took the pole position for the race but was sent to the rear of the field before the start because of the fact that his car had a flat right front tire that required changing, won the Overton’s 300 at the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois by holding off the highest finishing Ford driver of the race by 8.030 seconds.

That driver was Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick in his #98 Ford. Harvick is also a full-time Cup Series driver, and he drives for Stewart-Haas Racing. The highest finishing Toyota driver of the race was Joe Gibbs Racing’s Daniel Suarez, who finished in fourth place in his #18 Toyota. Suarez, like Larson and Harvick, is also a full-time Cup Series driver. He drives full-time for Joe Gibbs Racing
The race featured a total of 13 lead changes among seven different drivers. Aside of Larson, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 80 laps led, a total of six drivers led at least one lap of the race. Those drivers were Harvick, Suarez, Chase Briscoe, Brandon Jones, Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick. Reddick won stage one and Larson won stage two.
The race also featured a total of four caution flag periods for 21 laps. Of those four caution flag periods, two took place as a result of on-track incidents, while the other two took place as a result of the endings of stages and two. Of the 40 drivers who started the race, a total of 27 finished it, and of those 27 drivers, a total of 11 finished it on the lead lap.
