Chase Elliot

This past Saturday at Daytona International Speedway, Erik Jones scored his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory. This week at Kentucky Speedway, there will be a different first-time winner when Chase Elliott takes the top spot.

Of all of the young drivers still searching for their first career victories, Elliott is the one who I expect to see get a win before the others. Now that Jones has won, I feel that it is Elliott’s turn to taste victory.

In two starts at Kentucky Speedway, Elliott has gone from dismal to desired in terms of finishes. His first Kentucky race was in 2016, and he finished in 31st place. In 2017, however, he finished in third.  He is the type of driver who continues to improve and with a solid run on Saturday, he could very well earn his first career Cup Series win.

Could this be the weekend during which we finally see a Chevrolet driver back in victory lane? No Chevrolet driver has won a race in the Cup Series since Austin Dillon won the Daytona 500 in February.

Growing up a huge Bill Elliott fan makes me want to see Chase Elliott succeed and follow in his father’s footsteps. Hopefully win number one for him comes this weekend at Kentucky and gets both Chevrolet and Elliott’s career headed in the right direction.
