Jimmie Johnson

Since his full-time NASCAR Cup Series career began back in the 2002 season, there has been only one season during which Jimmie Johnson won fewer than three races. That season was the 2011 season, the season he entered as the five-time defending Cup Series champion. He won just two races that year.

Last season, the driver of the #48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet won three races in what was considered a “down” year for him coming off of the 2016 season, the season that resulted in him tying the all-time Cup Series championship record with his seventh career title.

This season, however, has been worse than last season for the seven-time champion. Johnson has failed to win a race so far this year, and he has not won a race for more than one full year now. He is on the longest win drought of his career.

While a lot of this has to do with the fact that Chevrolet teams and drivers have struggled with the new Camaros, Johnson has not had the success that some of the other Chevrolet drivers have had this year. He does have a third place finish in the race at Bristol Motor Speedway, but he has just one other top five finish and a total of only six top 10 finishes.

Johnson is the second highest Chevrolet driver in the championship standings in 12th place due to the fact that he has racked up several solid results just outside of the top 10. However, when it comes to winning races, he has really only been close on one occasion. When will this change?
