Brett Moffitt earned his fourth victory of the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series season by winning the Corrigan Oil 200 at Michigan International Speedway.

Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Brett Moffitt entered the 15th race of the 23-race 2018 NASCAR Truck Series season, the Corrigan Oil 200, at Michigan International Speedway, with three victories in the season’s first 14 races, a total that trailed only the win total of GMS Racing’s Johnny Sauter, the leader of the championship standings.

Moffitt, who started the 100-lap race around the four-turn, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) Michigan International Speedway oval in Brooklyn, Michigan in 21st place in his #16 Toyota, tied Sauter on the wins list in the 2018 season with his fourth victory of the season.

Sauter, the race’s highest finishing Chevrolet driver in his #21 Chevrolet in second place, had a chance to win his fifth race of the season, as he led 12 laps in a row leading up to the race’s final lap, but Moffitt, who led just five laps of the race, passed Sauter on the inside on the race’s final lap before winning it by just 0.025 seconds.

Here is a video of this exciting finish.

Moffitt’s starting position of 21st place became the lowest starting position of a winning driver this season. Previously, his 16th place start in the M&M’s 200 at Iowa Speedway was the lowest, and before that, his 10th place start in the Active Pest Control 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway was the lowest.

NEMCO Motorsports’ John Hunter Nemechek, who started the race from the pole position, and Kyle Busch Motorsports teammates Noah Gragson and Todd Gilliland rounded out the top five in third, fourth and fifth place in their #8 Chevrolet, #18 Toyota and #4 Toyota, respectively.

ThorSport Racing’s Ben Rhodes was the highest finishing Ford driver of the race. He finished in sixth place in his #41 Ford. ThorSport Racing’s Grant Enfinger, Halmar Friesen Racing’s Stewart Friesen, GMS Racing’s Justin Haley and ThorSport Racing’s Matt Crafton rounded out the top 10 in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #98 Ford, #52 Chevrolet, #24 Chevrolet and #88 Ford, respectively.

The race featured a total of 16 lead changes among nine drivers. Aside of Moffitt, eight drivers led at least one lap of the race. Those drivers were Sauter, Nemechek, Gragson, Gilliland, Enfinger, Friesen, Haley and Wendell Chavous. Gragson and Crafton led more laps than anybody else in the field with 18 laps led. Friesen won stage one and Enfinger won stage two.

The race also featured a total of five caution flag periods for 22 laps. Three of those five caution flag periods took place as a result of on-track incidents while the other two took place as a result of the endings of stages one and two like usual. Of the 32 drivers who started the race, 24 finished it, and of the 24 drivers who finished the race, 17 finished it on the lead lap.
