NASCAR Xfinity Series: Justin Allgaier wins 2018 Johnsonville 180

Justin Allgaier earned his fourth victory of the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season in the season’s 23rd race, the Johnsonville 180, at Road America.

JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier entered the 23rd race of the 33-race 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, the Johnsonville 180, at Road America, with three victories so far this season, including one in the most recent road course race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course two weeks ago.

Allgaier, who started the race in 11th place, earned his fourth victory of the season and his second consecutive road course victory by winning the 45-lap race at the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) Road America road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Allgaier won the race in his #7 Chevrolet by 5.403 seconds over second place finisher Matt Tifft of Richard Childress Racing, who started the race from the pole position in his #2 Chevrolet. Richard Childress Racing’s Daniel Hemric finished in third in his #21 Chevrolet, giving Chevrolet drivers a top three sweep of the finishing order.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer was the highest finishing Ford driver of the race. He finished in fourth place in his #00 Ford. Three Chevrolet drivers rounded out the top seven. JR Motorsports’ Elliott Sadler, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Justin Marks and JD Motorsport’ Ross Chastain finished in fifth, sixth and seventh in their #1 Chevrolet, #42 Chevrolet and #4 Chevrolet, respectively.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates James Davison and Brandon Jones were the highest finishing Toyota drivers of the race. They finished in eighth and ninth place in their #18 Toyota and #19 Toyota, respectively. DGM Racing’s Andy Lally rounded out the top 10 in 10th in his #90 Chevrolet.

The race featured a total of 10 lead changes among seven drivers. Aside of Allgaier, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 14 laps led, six other drivers led at least one of the race. Those drivers were Tifft, Hemric, Davison, Brendan Gaughan, Ryan Sieg and Austin Cindric. Tifft won stage one and Hemric won stage two.

The race also featured a total of seven caution flag periods, of which five took place as a result of on-track incidents. As usual, the other two took place as a result of the endings of the race’s first two stages. These seven caution flag periods spanned a total of 11 laps.

A total of 40 drivers started the race, and a total of 28 of the 29 drivers who finished it finished it on the lead lap.
