With just two races remaining on the 2018 IndyCar schedule, how do the sport’s 20 full-time driver stack up against one another?
Team Penske’s Will Power turned the “big three” into the “big four” by earning his third victory of the 2018 IndyCar season in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park on Saturday night.
Power’s victory in the 15th race of the 17-race season, which was a 248-lap race around the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) Gateway Motorsports Park oval in Madison, Illinois, made him the fourth different driver to secure his third victory this season.
Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi are the other three drivers who have secured three victories so far this season.
Heading into the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, these three drivers had accounted for nine of the 14 race victories so far this season. They had won the last three and five of the last six races.
With Power’s win, he and these other three drivers have now combined to win 12 of the 15 races that have been contested so far this season, including the last four and six of the last seven. Three other drivers have won so far this season, and all of them have won exactly one race. Those drivers are Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais, Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe.
