NASCAR: 4 drivers who could sign with Richard Childress Racing for 2019

Kurt Busch
Last month, a rumor began to circulate that Kurt Busch will be leaving Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season. This rumor included that idea that he will be replacing Jamie McMurray behind the wheel of the #1 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet next year.
While it has been confirmed that McMurray will not be returning to Chip Ganassi Racing next season, Busch has claimed that “nothing has been signed” as far as a 2019 contract for him is concerned.
If Stewart-Haas Racing opt not to re-sign Busch for the 2019 season and sign a young driver such as Cole Custer or Christopher Bell instead, Richard Childress Racing would be crazy to overlook signing the 40-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada native, and Busch would be crazy not to at least consider signing with the team.
Busch is still performing at an extremely high level even in his 18th season as a full-time Cup Series driver. In fact, he has had one of his best seasons if not his best season this year since his championship-winning 2004 season.
Along with all of the Chevrolet teams, Richard Childress Racing have been improving over the course of their first seasons using the new Camaro ZL1 as opposed to the old SS, which could make signing with the team more attractive for Busch, especially given the fact that Stewart-Haas Racing and the other Ford teams may experience “growing pains” when they replace the old Fusion with the new Mustang next season just like the Chevrolet teams have experienced this season.
Richard Childress Racing have experienced a solid increase in speed in recent weeks, which was shown clearly by Austin Dillon’s impressive fourth place finish in the race at Michigan International Speedway last month that would have been a second place finish had his car not experienced a flat tire with just over one lap to go.
But if Richard Childress Racing do not sign Busch nor Daniel Hemric for the 2019 season, which other drivers are in the running for them to sign?
