NASCAR Cup Series: How Kevin Harvick can be eliminated at Charlotte
By Asher Fair
Is Kevin Harvick already into the round of 12?
As long as Kevin Harvick competes in the Bank of America Roval 400, he has clinched a berth in the round of 12. But if he doesn’t, would he still?
Ryan Blaney must score 53 points to tie Harvick, which would still require him to finish in second place since otherwise a tiebreaker would be won by Harvick. He can do so by finishing in second (35 points) in the race and in both stages one (nine points) and two (nine points).
Bowman must score 53 points to pass Harvick, as he cannot tie him without finishing in second place and cannot do so if Blaney does so. Bowman can score 53 points by finishing in fourth (33 points) in the race and winning both stages one (10 points) and two (10 points).
Austin Dillon and Chase Elliott must make up 48 points over Harvick to pass his point total since otherwise a tiebreaker would be won by Harvick. Dillon (or Elliott) can do so by finishing in third place in the race (34 points) and fourth in both stages one (seven points) and two (seven points). Elliott (or Dillon) can do so by finished in fifth in the race (32 points) and third in both stages one (eight points) and two (eight points).
