NASCAR Cup Series: How Kevin Harvick can be eliminated at Charlotte
By Asher Fair
What must Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson and Aric Almirola do?
Kurt Busch must make up 43 points over Kevin Harvick to pass his point total since otherwise a tiebreaker would be won by Harvick as a result of the fact that Busch does not have a second place finish or a win so far in the round of 16. He can do so by finishing in sixth place in the race (31 points) and fifth in both stages one (six points) and two (six points).
Kyle Larson must make up 42 points over Harvick to pass his point total since he would win a tiebreaker over Harvick. Larson finished in second place in the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and he finished in seventh in the race at Richmond Raceway. He can make up these 42 points by finishing in seventh in the race (30 points) and sixth in both stages one (six points) and two (six points).
Aric Almirola must make up 35 points over Harvick to pass his point total since otherwise a tiebreaker would be won by Harvick as a result of the fact that Almirola does not have a second place finish or a win so far in the round of 16.
Almirola can do so by finishing in eighth place in the race (29 points) and scoring six stage points in some manner. He can finish as low as 10th in the race (27 points) since he would be able to score a maximum of eight stage points in some manner if everything else described above falls into place.
