Q & A before the race at the Charlotte roval

Below are the questions I asked David Starr before the 2018 Drive for the Cure 200 at the Charlotte roval.

NOTE: “Q” signifies questions asked by yours truly and “A” signifies David Starr’s answers.

Q: Your first time on the roval will be practice. How will you prepare?

A: First of all, I love to race. I always look forward to the next race. I wanted to race at the roval like the day after we finished the race at Richmond Raceway. I saw videos about the course. I will go to the track on Wednesday to get a visual of the layout. I wish NASCAR would allow us to test beforehand, or at least ride around in the pace car. I’ll learn every lap. Hopefully, throughout the race, I’ll creep up to gain some spots.

Q: How does a new track like the roval affect the playoffs?

A: It’s exciting because it’s such a mystery. NASCAR threw everyone a big curveball with the roval. Being in the heartbeat of NASCAR, in Charlotte, makes it cool. The roval levels the playing field. Drivers need to be aggressively patient racing at the roval. There’s a lot on the line. The season is winding down. Drivers can’t afford too many mistakes. I want to be there at the end. Practices will be crucial for all drivers.
