NASCAR Xfinity Series: David Starr talks first Charlotte roval race
By Mark Kristl
Q & A before the race at the Charlotte roval (continued)
Q: Tell me about your expectations for the roval.
A: I race for Jimmy Means Racing. For our budget, a top 20 is a win. We’re a solid team for what we have in regards to resources, cars, etc. Our goal is always to see the checkered flag. My goal is to run all the laps and finish. That gives our sponsors some exposure, and it reduces the amount of work for the guys at the shop.
Q: NASCAR wanted a road course in the playoffs. If you could add a road course to the schedule, which track would it be and why?
A: That’s a cool question. I like what NASCAR has done for the sport with the implementation of the roval. I’m from Texas, so I’m a little biased saying Texas Motor Speedway is my favorite track. It’s my home track and I just love how it races. The facility itself is top-notch. So I’d love to race at another track in Texas. The road course in Austin, Circuit of the Americas, would be neat.
Q: Talk to me about the schedule. You’re a veteran and seemingly everyone has their ideas about the schedule.
A: I like ’em all. I’m just a racer who likes to compete. So if I could change the schedule of the Xfinity Series, I’d add a couple more short tracks. Let’s go to Martinsville. Another track that would be a lot of fun would be Eldora. Tony Stewart does a lot for the Trucks at Eldora. An Xfinity Series race at Eldora would be cool for the fans and drivers.
