Post-race thoughts

David Starr qualified in 34th place for the 2018 Drive for the Cure 200. In the inaugural race at the Charlotte roval, he gained seven spots when the checkered flag flew. He finished in 27th, two spots shy of his goal of a top 25 finish. He remained in 23rd in the championship standings.

Here is what Jimmy Means Racing tweeted following the race.

A few days after the race, Starr again spoke with me to share his thoughts on the first Xfinity Series race at the Charlotte roval.

Q: Alright, tell me about racing at the roval.

A: It was an awesome, interesting, challenging, and cool racing experience. I loved racing at that track. The course layout is so much different from road course racing. It’s a good race track with its oval and road course combo.

Q: Glad to hear you enjoyed it. You finished in 27th place, two spots shy of your weekly goal.

A: Yeah, all in all it was a good run for us. I wanted to do better but 27th place isn’t bad. With our budget, we are somewhat restricted with how well we can do. Jimmy [Means] gives this team the best stuff we can get. My Jimmy Means Racing guys do the best with what we got. I wanted to gain some more spots there towards the end but not a bad race. I tried rolling through the corners quicker, but then the car was on the verge of being out of control. On top of that, driving through those chicanes was hairy nearly every lap. You needed discipline so as not to tear anything up.
