How have the four Championship 4 drivers fared against one another up to this point in the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series season?

The 2018 NASCAR Truck Series Championship 4 race, the Ford EcoBoost 200, is scheduled to take place this Friday, November 16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This year’s champion is set to be crowned following its conclusion.

GMS Racing teammates Johnny Sauter and Justin Haley as well as Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Brett Moffitt and Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Noah Gragson are the four drivers who are set to enter the Ford EcoBoost 200 with a chance to win this year’s championship.

Before the 134-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Homestead-Miami Speedway oval in Homestead, Florida gets underway, take a look at how each of these four drivers have fared against one another so far this season since the highest finisher among them in this race will be crowned this year’s champion.

As far as the average finishes of each of these drivers are concerned, Sauter has the best through the season’s first 22 races. His average finish is 6.14 while Gragson’s is 8.71, Haley’s is 8.95 and Moffitt’s is 9.27.

Sauter has earned six victories so far this season while Moffitt has earned five, Haley has earned three and Gragson has earned one.

But how has each driver fared against the other three?

NOTE: All totals discussed below take into account the July race at Pocono Raceway in which Noah Gragson did not compete due to an illness. For the purpose of this article, his result in this race is considered the lowest result among the four Championship 4 drivers in it.

When it comes to just these four drivers, Sauter has finished higher than the other three in eight of the 22 races that have been contested so far this season. Moffitt has done so in seven while Haley has done so in five and Gragson has done so in two.

Haley and Gragson have each finished behind one of the other three drivers and ahead of the other two in six of the 22 races that have been contested so far this season. Sauter and Moffitt have each done so in five.

Gragson has finished behind two of the other three drivers and ahead of the other one in nine of the 22 races that have been contested so far this season. Sauter has done so in five while Moffitt and Haley have each done so in four.

Finally, Haley has finished behind all three of the other drivers in seven of the 22 races that have been contested so far this season. Moffitt has done so in six while Gragson has done so in five and Sauter has done so in four.

Among these four drivers, Sauter has the best average finish when including only his results relative to the results of the other three drivers. His average finish is 2.23 while Moffitt’s is 2.41, Haley’s is 2.59 and Gragson’s is 2.77.
